Meet the pioneers behind Sovev—two friends united by individual transformative experiences at the mikveh and a shared vision to build a welcoming community mikveh in South Florida for all Jews.
Sapphira Edgarde is a graduate of Vassar College (B.A. in Religion) and the University of Judaism (MA.Ed.) and holds a DeLeT teaching certificate in day school education from Hebrew Union College. For over a decade, she has been both a Jewish day school teacher in General Studies as well as a religious school educator. Sapphira and her husband, Seth Edgarde, are raising two daughters, and they all share a love of making art, music, and books. Sapphira, a certified mikveh guide, is a life-long learner often studying at Hadar Institute and Ritualwell. She is a current Wexner Heritage Fellow.


Rabbi Nachshon Carmi is a seasoned educator, ritual artist, mikveh guide, certified life coach, and a trusted spiritual director and pastoral counselor. He received Rabbinic ordination from Aleph-Jewish Renewal under the guidance of Rabbi Marcia Prager and Rabbinic Pastor Eve Ilsen, both of whom were ordained by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, of blessed memory. Rabbi Carmi holds an M.Ed. in human sexuality education from Widener University, a life coaching certificate from The Jerusalem Coaching Institute, and a certificate in psychodynamic psychotherapy from Tel Aviv University. From 2008-2015, Rabbi Carmi had a private practice adjacent to the Terem Family Medicine Clinic in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Carmi has been a high school Judaics teacher at Donna Klein Jewish Academy in Boca Raton, Florida for the past nine years. In addition, he teaches the giyur (conversion to Judaism) class at B’nai Torah Congregation. Rabbi Carmi is a horticulturist and naturalist. He is the father of two teenagers and is joyfully married to Ilene Prusher. In his free time, you can find him turning his compost pile, listening to podcasts, and cooking his homegrown crops for his family and guests.
